Medics Held a Meeting with Health Officials in Northern Syria to Find Health and Relief Solutions for Those Affected by the Syria Earthquake in February 2023.
Representatives of Medics met with Dr. Abu Al-Hassan Muhammad Musatat, Head of Primary Healthcare, Mr. Shadi, Head of Relations at the Ministry of Health in the Syrian cities of (Idlib, Jindires, Afrin), and Dr. Ahmed Abu Al-Nour, Head of the Cancer File and Director of the National Hospital and Al-Shifa Hospital.
The meeting was held as part of Medics’ efforts to build sustainable cooperation in the health field and provide necessary supplies to health institutions in the affected areas. The discussion aimed to develop efforts to provide better services for those affected by the earthquakes in northern Syria, provide basic life necessities for the affected, and contribute to alleviating their suffering after the earthquake.
The 2023 Syria Earthquake and What Happened
The earthquake struck the northern region of Syria and Turkey, with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was at a depth of 17.9 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface, causing the deaths of thousands of people and displacing hundreds of thousands. It further exacerbated the existing humanitarian crisis due to the practices and aggression of the Assad regime.
Syria has been experiencing consecutive humanitarian crises for about 15 years, and its crises intensified after the earthquake disaster and the subsequent deterioration of its infrastructure, worsening humanitarian needs, displacement, and an increase in the number of refugees and those in need in northern Syria and various other areas. The crisis in the earthquake-affected areas of northern Syria has not ended yet, and those affected are awaiting your support and donations, which you can provide through Medics’ projects dedicated to Syria.
