The International Medical Relief Organization (Medics) and the Syrian Civil Defense Organization have agreed to strengthen their cooperation to provide more assistance and relief to those affected in Syria.
This partnership aims to consolidate efforts between the two sides and strengthen relations to ensure coordination and further assistance to the people of Syria affected by the earthquake and the recent difficult situation.
Who are the Syrian Civil Defense “White Helmets”?
They are a humanitarian organization that works hard to help communities in Syria by saving lives, providing relief, and assisting in reconstruction after attacks, disasters, and earthquakes. They began their work in late 2012 as teams of volunteers from different regions of the country, in order to aid the areas from which the regime withdrew and from which ambulance, fire, and health care services were withdrawn, despite continuing to bombard them with bombs and barrel bombs to this day.
The organization now includes 3,000 volunteers, who assert that they are committed to the principles of “humanity, solidarity, and non-alignment,” as a pledge that guides every action they take and every life they save. To date, the White Helmets have rescued more than 125,000 people from the rubble of aerial bombardments, paying the price of losing 294 volunteers under regime bombardment in northern Syria.
